Cultivating The Youth
Experience, Inc. (CTYE) is a nonprofit agency that offers various free to
low cost programs to youth and their parents. We serve all areas of the
Louisville community and especially places where lower income, limited
resources and education, poor health and few job opportunities often inhibits
one’s ability to thrive.
CTYE takes a holistic approach to meeting the needs of our youth by working with parents, schools and volunteers of CTYE to provide broader opportunities for education, health, work readiness and general life skill success.
This year CTYE's goal is to sponsor 20 students for the 2017-18 School Year in our Filling In the Gaps (FIG) Program, which will provide parents with a CTYE Liaison whose goal is to build a stronger relationship between the student, parents, and teachers. Our liaison acts on the parent's behalf by being present in the school system when the parent or guardian is unavailable. Some of the services are attending parent-teacher conferences, mediations, testing, etc. We know there are many reasons why parents are unable to be present in the school, and we want to help! Last year's FIG Families saw significantly improved behavioral and test scores across the board and we want to extend that success in the future.
This year we are also kicking off our first year of CTYE's 2nd Time Around Program to assist Grandparents who are raising their grandchildren and need assistance navigating the technological changes to the JCPS system. We want you to join us. Your support through volunteering time or providing generous donations are what keeps us going!
These programs have to be fully funded and staffed to be successful and that's where you can help. Help us reach out to those who need it most, and watch the fruits of our labor grow into a beautiful legacy that will further enrich our communities for years to come. To volunteer for any of these programs in any capacity please call us at 502-694-2893.
CTYE's road map to success is paved with generous people like you and here's what you are helping us achieve...
Our monthly youth mentorship groups focus on self-confidence, leadership, goal setting, financial and work readiness, community service, as well as having fun!
Girls Empowered Making Strides (GEMS) is our all girls monthly mentorship program that currently encourages over 15 young ladies from grades 6-12.
Official New Youth Xperience (ONYX) is our all boys monthly mentorship program currently serving an average of 10 young men a month from grades 6-12.
Together, our mentorship programs are pushing the youth of Louisville from some of the cities most at risk areas to exceed their wildest dreams. Providing a safe and nuturing environment to explore, communicate, engage, eat and play.
CTYE's Free Work Readiness Program
2017 was our first year conducting our Work Readiness Program, with the help of the Mayor's Summer Works Grant. With over 25 attendees learning how to research, fill out applications, dress for and conduct interviews, and gaining tips on landing and keeping a job as well as a financial readiness 101 class. CTYE prides itself on providing quality educational and life learning programs to our youth. Many of the working age Youth that attended the program have been able to secure a job for the summer. We need your help to keep these efforts alive!
CTYE's Mentoring and College Readiness Programs
These two programs are fairly new and are both gaining momentum. Since launching, we have been able to successfully help enroll several of our students into college. With help from our donors we also have been able to provide various "College Book Scholarships" to our students as well. Through our mentoring program, we have aided our students in setting goals while in middle and high school, encouraged and assisted them in joining extracurricular activities, and worked with them on social and interpersonal skills.
Additionally, for our junior and seniors we have been able to assist them with getting into college, teaching them what to expect, college survival skills, budgeting, and how to live independently, etc. We also understand that college is not the right fit for everyone, so we also work on career goals and jobs skills with those youth.
