NAMI Gainesville annual walk

Saturday, October 14, 2017 through Saturday, October 14, 2017

NAMI Gainesville is an affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the largest grass roots organization that provides  support, advocacy and education to family members and individuals with a mental illness.  Our goal is to improve  the quality of life for people whose lives are affected by serious and persistent mental illnesses.

We have training for family and peers.  One of the powerful things that people receive is awareness that they are not alone. We teach a course for middle and high school students to teach them basics of mental health and suicide prevention.  The message throughout the fifty minute program is to not keep secretes.

In addition, NAMI Gainesville has been a leader in the Stepping Up movement in Alachua County to reduce the number of individuals who have a mental illness and end in in jail instead of getting treatment.
