About Baby Bird Volunteer
Each spring, an average of 2000 baby birds are brought in by caring individuals and families. Baby Bird Volunteers provide comprehensive on-site care for baby birds. With so many baby birds vying for attention, we are always looking for caring volunteers to help us with this huge endeavor.
Volunteers interested in joining the Baby Bird Program are required to attend Baby Bird Program Orientation, as part of their first 4-hour shift. During orientation, volunteers are educated as to WRR philosophies & practices and trained to set up cages properly for each species and correctly hand-feed birds, as well as essential shift protocol.
Requirements
- Minimum 18 years of age
- Availability from Mid-March through End of August
- One 4-hour shift per month for three months during Baby Season (March through August); Shifts run from 7am to 11am, 12pm to 4pm and 4pm to 8pm, 7 days a week
- Facility and program orientations
- Additional hands-on training
Duties
- Hand-feeding nestling and juvenile birds
- Cleaning cages, birds, etc.
- Food preparation
monitoring the health of the birds
