About Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service is a community event that honors the legacy of Dr. King through service to others. University of La Verne students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members are invited to participate in making this holiday a day on, not a day off, by engaging in community service projects throughout the community that revolve around this year's theme of social justice and sustainable communities.
Please view the various service sites and sign up for a community project!
Below is the schedule for the day:
7:30am-Check-in time (please pick up a t-shirt and report to your team leader)
8:00am-Opening program begins
8:20am-Teams will get a lunch as they prepare to depart to their volunteer site
8:30am-All buses will depart
9:00am-12:00pm-Service at site takes place
12:00pm-1:00pm-Lunch and Reflection
1:00pm-Depart site and return to campus
1:30pm-Volunteers arrive to Sneaky Park for the closing program
3:00pm-Event concludes
We need volunteers to help with:
Amy's Farm (Team 1)
Volunteers will assist with organic farming practices by mulching and refurbishing fields.

The Farm at Fairplex (Team 2)
Volunteers will assist with organic farming practices, including mulching, rooting, and planting.

La Verne Peace and Carrots Community Garden (Team 3)
Volunteers will assist with gardening.
African American Museum of Beginnings (Team 4)
Volunteers will assist with maintenance and organization of the museum, as well as reading to groups of children.
Huerta Del Valle Community Garden (Team 6)
Volunteers will be doing an assortment of activities, including mulching, planting, and harvesting organic fruits and vegetables.
