Interactive health promotion event for parents and children. Filled with fun activity stations to engage families in discussions of healthy eating, injury prevention and wellness. Come work in one of the activity booths, we promise you won't be bored!
Application Process
Select AM or PM shift. Sign up on GiveGab. If not a member on GiveGab contact [email protected] and ask to be added to UMMC GiveGab page(use your umc email to make request). Check umc.edu email for GiveGab invite and follow instructions.
We need volunteers to help with:
Amazing Healthy Choice Maze 9am - 1pm
September 7, 2019 9:00am – 1:00pm
Volunteers will familiarize themselves with the 60’ by 40’ walk thru maze, and supervise kids (and parents) as they make their way through the maze. A tall ladder will be secured behind the maze to assist volunteers in ensuring kids have a fun time. Volunteers should rotate on and off the ladder frequently.

Animal Alphabet Safari 9a - 1pm
September 7, 2019 9:00am – 1:00pm
Alphabet animal post will be spread throughout the event. Volunteer will be assigned an animal at check in. for each child that visits your post, act out the animal you are assigned and have the child do the same. Be very energetic! Descriptions of the animal and their description will be printed on the post for you to tell the child about the animal. Sample animal post: F is for Frog
- A frog is an amphibian. They lay eggs in water.
- Frogs breathe through their nostrils and their skin.
- Jump like a frog and say "ribbett." Have the child participate.

Back Pack Check 9am - 1pm

Weigh children, then calculate 10 to 15% pf their body weight. (10% is easiest!)
Then, pair the child with a backpack of appropriate weight (10 to 15% of body weight).
Let the child “feel” the weight of the backpack. Show them how to wear it on both shoulders. Let the parents lift it as well.

Balance Beam Bridges 9am - 1pm

Have children walk the balance beam. For older kids, if it is too easy, have them try it with a bean bag on their heads! You can rearrange the balance beam if you like. Just don’t lose the plastic connectors.

Balance Challenge 9am - 1pm
September 7, 2019 9:00am – 1:00pm
Set up a path of the inflatable balance challenges. These are squishy balance plates—designed to enhance balance. Let kids walk thru the path, one foot per plate. On the large wobbly plates, have kids stand on one foot and see how long they can balance.
