About Camp Kandu May 7th 8-4pm Twin Lakes Florence, MS
Medical and General volunteers needed. Choose appropriate category when signing up. If you are student, please select general volunteer category. Camp Kandu- a place where kids with diabetes ‘Kandu’ anything! Join the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi in empowering kids and making a difference in their lives! The camp is free for children with diabetes but fills up quickly. Parents, friends and family members also are encouraged to attend the camp to learn about diabetes management, including the importance of healthy meal planning, exercising regularly and monitoring blood-glucose levels.

We need volunteers to help with:
Medical Volunteers
Details: Camp takes place RAIN or SHINE! We will be doing a lot of walking on uneven terrain-please be in good physical shape before you sign up!
General Volunteers
Keep the kids motivated and happy; encourage participation, cheer;
and be a mediator if necessary!!!!
Please step in and mediate if there are problems. We have no tolerance for teasing/name calling, so please guide kids toward getting along. Know where the medical volunteers are at all times and watch for these signs of Low Blood Sugar.
If you suspect low blood sugar, IMMEDIATELY ask one of the medical staff or your group nurse to check the child’s blood glucose!
Irritable Hungry
Drowsy Glassy or dilated eyes
Inattentive Incoherent or “spacey”
Shaky Slurred speech
Perspiring
Any behavior change
