Twenty years ago, Chicago reached the highest murder toll in its history, and the neighborhood I was growing up in was one of the hardest hit. To a kid growing up in the heart of the Cabrini Green housing projects—who had all but given up on his future—hope gave me a reason to walk into the doors of Tutoring Chicago for help.
It was there among hundreds of other kids and amazing volunteers that I met my tutor, Sarah, who would go on to change the trajectory of my life. Because of Tutoring Chicago, I was set on a positive path allowing me to graduate from college and pursue my passion to educate youth.
For the past 51 years, Tutoring Chicago has provided free, one-to-one tutoring for economically disadvantaged children. Currently, they serve 600 kids a week with assistance from over 650 volunteer tutors like Sarah. And today, you can join them to help kids just like me.
We are at another pivotal moment in Chicago’s history, and your support is critical. My life and improbable successes are a testament to the fact that organizations like Tutoring Chicago are what made and will make our city rise from this crisis—one child at a time. Let’s work together and make this another defining moment for our great city.
Sincerely,
