About Volunteer at The Carle!

Volunteers provide many skills and services, often working directly with the public in our Art Studio or Reading Library. If you are interested in volunteering at The Carle, please complete our online Volunteer Form by visiting: https://www.carlemuseum.org/content/volunteer-form.

Our seasons of most need tend to be May-August, December, and school vacation weeks. Volunteer positions at The Carle are guest service-centered. We look for team members who are friendly, outgoing, and comfortable speaking with guests of all ages and abilities.

We request that all volunteers commit to one 3.5-hour shift per week (weekdays or weekends) for a minimum of six months, during The Museum’s regular hours of operation.

Insurance and security restrictions require the Museum to screen all applications carefully. We will keep your application on file for one year and contact you for an interview in the event of a match between your interests, experience, availability and our needs.

The Carle’s volunteer program provides support in the following ways:

ART STUDIO

A deep interest in making things helps to foster the creative process in our guests and is at the core of the role of Art Studio volunteer. Volunteers are not expected to be trained fine artists, but they must be at ease working with different art materials and talking about the art making process. During special events and programs The Studio can be very busy, while on other days it is quiet and slower paced. We are looking for people who are self-directed and comfortable in both settings.

READING LIBRARY

The role of a Reading Library volunteer is to inspire a life-long love of reading. We aim to have volunteers who find joy in reading with others and are experienced with leading engaging storytimes. At The Carle, storytimes embrace reading ‘with’ children rather than ‘to’ children. Generally, The Reading Library is a quiet place where guests come and go throughout their visits, however during special events and programs it can be very busy. We are looking for self-directed volunteers who can work productively and effectively in both settings.

Please Note: There are no Reading Library volunteer positions available at this time.
