About Research Volunteers at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center

Participate in ongoing research projects at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC) in Edgewater, MD. There are many ongoing opportunities to work on exciting projects about forest biodiversity, stream restoration, archaeology, invasive species and more! You can work alongside scientists in the field to collect this important data.

After the fieldwork is complete, and the scientists have all of their samples, they get to work processing and analyzing! With some training, you could work side by side scientists as they continue to discover amazing things.
