About Crisis Hotline Volunteer
“Knowing that there are so many youth and families who struggle with difficult issues and that we at NRS can help them find a way through either by providing resources, insight or a sounding board makes each shift at the crisis services center truly worthwhile! And I love spending time with the amazing NRS staff and all my fabulous fellow volunteers!”– Julie, crisis line volunteer and Volunteer of the Month for August, 2016
We train our liners to provide solution-focused crisis intervention and empowering, non-judgmental support for callers and online chatters. Using our national resource database, liners connect at-risk youth to shelter, food, and mental health services as needed. Our training program consists of 41.5 hours of instruction, discussion, role-plays, and on-the-job education. Upon completion of training, we ask that volunteers commit 2 to 4 hours per week for at least one year. Liners must be at least 16 years of age, and they must be comfortable using computers.
