About School on Wheels, Inc.
Tutoring homeless children since 1993, School on Wheels, Inc seeks volunteers of all ages to join them in giving hope, educational assistance and support to the thousands of homeless children living in California through weekly one-on-one or group tutoring.
School on Wheels asks its volunteers to commit to meeting with their student for 1 hour a week for 1 year to build a genuine connection. The meeting time and start date are flexible and negotiable. Tutors are matched with students based upon where both live and on availability.
Application Process
To submit an application, follow this link: http://www.schoolonwheels.org/volunteer/become-a-volunteer
Once you submit your application, you will receive a link to an Online Orientation. The orientation lasts about 1 hour. Although the orientation does not have to be completed in one sitting, it must be completed before moving forward. After the Online Orientation is complete, the next step is to attend an in person Tutor Training. Volunteers must also submit to a Live Scan fingerprint background check.
After the above is completed, your Regional Coordinator will contact you to set up an informal interview where your availability, location, and grade preference will be reviewed and discussed. This is also a good time to ask any additional questions. Following the informal interview, you Coordinator will match you with your student.
