VOLUNTEER POSITION DESCRIPTION:
MIDDLE EDUCATION TUTOR
Purpose:
Provide individual and small group tutoring and homework assistance to students. Assist students in improving academic achievement by helping them with homework and/or reviewing class material. Other assistance might include: discussing the text, predicting test questions, formulating ideas for papers, or working on solutions to problems.
Volunteer Duties:
Help members with daily homework.
Help staff with the Clubs tutoring program.
Provide encouragement and support by helping members develop confidence and positive attitude toward learning by affirming their thinking and progress in their lessons.
Showing respect for the members by listening to what they have to say and by involving them in decisions about the learning process.
Assures that all members sign in when coming into the program.
Maintains members order and discipline by managing members’ behavior; reinforces rules of the club and all the recreational areas (including the gym).
Meeting regularly and punctually.
Time Commitment:
Make a semester commitment
Spend a minimum of two hours a week as a tutor
Communicate with staff on a weekly basis
Desirable Qualities:

Participation Requirements:
Be interested in working with young people
Be willing to adhere to all program policies and procedures
Be willing to complete the application and screening process
Be dependable and consistent in meeting the time commitments
Attend mentor training sessions as prescribed
Be willing to communicate regularly with program staff, submit activity information, and take constructive feedback regarding mentoring activities
