A fundraising campaign for Lehman College

In 2013, the U.S. granted asylum to 25,199 people.That’s 25,199 people who left their countries of origin with the promise to never return. Sana Batool was one of them.

In 2011, Sana Batool was a teenager living in Quetta, Pakistan. Then a suicide bombing two blocks from her home changed everything. Many in the community were killed and hundreds more were injured. The violence had hit too close to home for the Batool family, who eventually sought and won asylum in the U.S. In 2013 they settled in Queens and slowly adjusted to their new life in America.

No longer bound by the restrictions of culture and circumstance, Sana realized that her future held unlimited possibilities. With aspirations of becoming a cardiac surgeon, Sana enrolled at Lehman College to pursue a degree in biochemistry.

Recently, Lehman awarded Sana vital scholarship support. She no longer has to juggle a full-time job and full-time study. She has the time she needs to focus on school, conduct extracurricular research, and volunteer in her community.

Because of this support, Sana can learn more, do more, and move ahead toward her goal.
