Help City Year reach 280 students through 50 Acts of Greatness.
City Year New Hampshire's 70 AmeriCorps members (ACMs) serve full-time in 8 elementary schools in Manchester, focused on three key indicators that identify students who are at risk of dropping out - attendance, behavior and course performance in math and English. A student who falls behind in even one of these areas as early as third grade has a 75% chance of dropping out. Reaching students at the right time, with the right intervention, can be the difference in whether or not that child makes it to graduation.
City Year corps members are extremely effective at supporting the development of social emotional learning skills such as teamwork, appreciation of inclusivity, communication, and conflict resolution. Through work with students in focused groups, corps members implement 50 Acts of Greatness, a City Year-designed behavior coaching program developed to include key socio-emotional learning (SEL) concepts and opportunities for students. We're seeing the results schools want to see.
All day, every day corps members help students change the way they interact with their peers and teachers, leading to less ongoing behavior challenges and more positive learning opportunities. As near-peers, corps members are uniquely positioned to form close relationships with students, and as additional school staff, multiply the people power to successfully reach those who are at-risk.
