About Youth Community Explosion Homelessness Simulation
Youth Community Explosion (YCE) & First United Methodist Church (FUMC) Middle School youth will participate in a two-day simulation to learn about homelessness and poverty through interactive activities and sleeping in cardboard homes outdoors.
Volunteers will serve in a variety of capacities:
-Help setup the parking lot for Cardboard City
-Register youth by checking them in and assigning identities
-Serve as an usher for dinner (Hunger Meal Awareness)
-Partner with one youth to build a house
-Assist with craft activity
-Assist with Team building activities
-Help pack up parking lot and move to Christian World Missions
-Prepare breakfast to go in the trash
-Assist with making hygiene kits for homeless youth
-Help clean up space at Christian World Missions
The event will take place in two locations: 200 W Lampkin St and 1437 Fire Station Road. There are multiple two hour shifts running from 1 pm on November 20 to noon on November 21.
Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, and there's an application process.
