Big Give SA - Churchill Charger Band

Support the Winston Churchill Charger Band through the Big Give San Antonio! Your donations help these students grow - as musicians & as future leaders.

50 Years of Excellence

This tradition defines Winston Churchill High School and the Churchill Charger Band.

In 2017, the Charger Band returns to Indianapolis, IN for Bands of America (BOA) Grand Nationals competition November 8 - 11. The Charger Band looks forward to returning after outstanding performances in finals at Regional and Super Regional competitions for the past 3 years.  In 2006, Churchill placed 10th in the country at this prestigious competition among America's best high school bands. We can't wait to get back and show them our Charger spirit!

To continue our quality performances, the students pay their own way to competitions through individual fundraising, parental support and seeking group donations. Unlike athletics, the fine arts programs like band are not fully funded by the schools or school districts. Band is more like club soccer or volleyball -- except it has 250 students and an 18 wheeler full of instruments and props.

Your donation pays for music, instruments, transportation, meals, uniforms, color guard flags, sabers, water jugs, and fuel for The Great White that hauls our instruments and props all over Texas and this year, to Indianapolis!

The Charger Band gives back through service projects

  • In 2016, Charger Band students adopted over 70 children through the Salvation Army Angel Tree program to provide gifts to needy children.
  • Our jazz band entertains at local nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
  • The Churchill Drumline frequently performs at our feeder elementary schools -- providing the beat for pep rallies during Red Ribbon Week and Welcome Back to School assemblies.
  • Our band members are active on campus in National Honor Society, Parliament (student government), PALS (Peer Assistance Leadership), ROTC and sports.
  • Churchill Band places a premium on its inclusion program for special needs students and works with the middle school band directors and special education departments to identify and ensure a musician with disabilities can be a Charger Band member.
