About Horse Handler during Astride Lessons

Volunteers 16 and up with horse experience are trained to lead a horse during astride lessons, holding full responsibility for the actions of the horse. Horse handlers will be able to independently prepare a horse (catch, groom, exercise, and tack up if necessary) before lessons, lead them at the direction of the therapeutic riding instructor, and then cool them down, and return them to proper paddock after lessons. Horse leaders must be physically fit and able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
