Help Women's Volleyball score big!

In 2019, the Canisius volleyball team will look to improve upon a historic 2018 season which ended with the program’s first appearance in the MAAC Championship match. The squad also established a program-record home winning streak, putting together 10 consecutive wins at the Koessler Athletic Center that dated back to the last two home games of 2017. The Griffs matched a program-best with 14 conference wins in 2018. These wins included a sweep of rival Niagara and ending Fairfield’s NCAA-best 58-match winning streak in conference play. Individually, Canisius had six players earn postseason MAAC honors, including one major award winner. Lopez Acosta was also the first Griff to be named MAAC Libero of the Year since 2014 while senior Sara Wesley and junior Leah Simmons were selected to the All-MAAC First Team.  Senior Sofia Lopez Acosta and junior Cassidy Ceriani earned All-MAAC Second Team honors, while freshmen Camila Vazquez and Melina Woods made the MAAC All-Rookie Team.  

Picked as the MAAC preseason favorite, the 2019 squad returns 12 players from last year’s record-setting team, including Simmons, the 2019 MAAC Preseason Player of the Year, and Ceriani, a 2019 Preseason All-MAAC Team selection. Already this season, Ceriani has become the third Griff all-time to reach 3,000 career assists, while Simmons closing in on the 1,000-kill career milestone.
