My name is Brooks Anthony and I am holding a fundraising competition on social media to raise money for The First Tee of Fort Worth. I chose them because they benefit a cause that was important to my mother, Melissa. She passed away from Breast Cancer in August of last year. I wanted to use February, her birthday month, to bring some good into the world in her memory. My mom always cared about children, especially those less-fortunate. She even continued to volunteer at a child-care throughout her fight with cancer. Through my dad's participation, I have seen what First Tee of Greater Kansas City has done for the youth in my hometown and want to help see the same happen in my local chapter here in Fort Worth.
The First Tee of Fort Worth is about more than learning how to be good at golf; it’s about learning how to be great at life. They want every young person to have the very best shot at leading an exceptional life, and use the challenges and rewards of golf as a platform to teach the life skills necessary to do just that. Golf is simply the framework used to help young people realize their greatness in every aspect of their lives, from social interactions and academic achievement to leadership development.
Through golf and their core values, kids and teens will learn life skills like:
- Making proper introductions
- Managing emotions
- Resolving conflicts
- Setting up step-by-step goals
- Planning for the future
- Appreciating diversity
