“The Paper” Scholarship Fund for Social Justice

The Paper (formerly Tech News) has a long and respected legacy. It was created in 1970 by a group of multi-racial students at City College during a period of social upheaval that included the Civil Rights movement, the Vietnam War, anti-war demonstrations, and fights for student rights. The Paper reported on not just college-related issues, but sought to give voice to the underserved in and around Harlem, nationally (including a groundbreaking story on the Attica uprising) and internationally.

More than 70% of CCNY students receive financial support. For many it imposes a real challenge to manage tuition, and to complete unpaid full-time internships during semester breaks. The Paper Scholarship Fund seeks to help provide an additional financial support option for students to assist them in their academics, and to build on their professional development and leadership skills.

Won’t you please make your gift today? We are grateful for your donation to The Paper Scholarship Fund – a contribution that continues the support of journalism and social justice activism by our students, and ensures the legacy of The Paper at CCNY.
