Dr. Jane Coffee founded the Teacher Education Honors Academy (TEHA) at the College of Staten Island in 2006, and worked tirelessly for 16 years to make it the success it is today. The purpose of TEHA is to empower a new generation of exceptional teachers who will inspire enthusiasm for mathematics and science in middle and high school students. This is accomplished by building and supporting cohorts of undergraduate students who have demonstrated outstanding talent for mathematics and science, and have a passion for becoming teachers. TEHA students are provided with internships in NYC public schools, scholarships, and job placement as teachers of mathematics and science.
Your donation will be used to fund scholarships for TEHA students. These scholarships help the students with paying tuition, buying textbooks, and meeting other financial demands during their undergraduate work so they may focus on their training. This fund was established to honor Dr. Coffee's legacy, to provide much needed funding to continue the program in her memory. TEHA has continued with the same momentum, and even seen an increase in new applications! With your help, TEHA will continue to prepare their enthusiastic teachers-to-be for their crucial roles in education.
