The New Hampshire Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence NHCADSV is thrilled to be participating in NH Gives. We are using this opportunity to highlight the work being done on a statewide level to end violence and abuse. NHCADSV is an umbrella organization that supports 13 member programs that are located across the state.
Did you know:
- In 2015 those programs served just under 14,000 individuals.
- That includes the 324 adults and 205 children who spent time in one of these emergency shelters because they weren't safe in their own homes.
In one day alone these programs served 313 individuals, but sadly, during the same 24-hour period they were unable to meet the needs of dozens of survivors. Here is just one example of this:
“We were unable to shelter a woman and her three children on Census day due to the capacity of our shelter. This woman struggled to find an available shelter in the state of New Hampshire. We wanted to help out and put them in a hotel until we were able to find a safe place for them to stay so they would not have to return to the home their abuser lived in, however due to financial limitations, our agency was not able to accommodate this request. The mother and her children were all scared of the possibility they would not find a place to stay and we could only make referrals to other area domestic violence shelters and homeless shelters.” *NNEDV 2015 Census
Capacity should never be an issue when we are talking about the lifesaving work being done at these crisis centers everyday.
We are encouraging all donors to say No More and join by supporting not only the work of the New Hampshire Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence but also the work of these local member programs that are providing safety and support to survivors in your community as we speak.
