OUR ORGANIZATION
IHR is the only 501(c)(3) horse rescue organization in Southwest
Idaho dedicated exclusively to our equine friends. IHR continually receives solicitations for rescue throughout the
state of Idaho. With your donation, IHR will be able to provide quality
care to our rescued horses, continue to rescue and rehabilitate more
horses, and prevent cruelty to horses.
IHR’s primary effort and purpose is to rescue abused, abandoned, and neglected and/or starving horses; to coordinate adoptions into forever homes of rescued horses; to offer equine education and training to horse owners in our community; and to facilitate the surrender of horses by owners unable to provide adequate care and horses referred by State/County Control Officers and agencies.
OUR RESCUES
In
January of this year, we endeavored to rescue three abandoned and
trapped horses from Boulder Mountain near McCall, Idaho. We were
successful in rescuing two of those horses, JD and Ryat. The most
difficult horse rescue to date, Ryat had to be lifted off Boulder
Mountain via helicopter. You can watch his heart stopping rescue and see

On February 17th of this year, we were able to rescue 17 horses destined for slaughter. Originally, there were 51 horses reported in the case, many of them yearlings. They were living in small, cramped pens, knee deep in feces and urine. Many of these horses had patches of missing hair due to eating, living, and sleeping in their own excrement. Their hooves were horribly overgrown. Sadly, 7 horses starved to death and 6 had to be euthanized by the Department of Agriculture. IHR was able to intervene and took in 17 of them. On March 16th, IHR was able to rescue the remaining 10 Owyhee horses, bringing our total to 40 horses.

OUR ADOPTION PROGRAM
IHR provides a peaceful environment where rescued horses can heal both mental and physical wounds. After the horses have been rehabilitated and are ready to receive training, IHR will begin the training process for rescued horses. Without effective daily training, these rescued horses have a diminished chance of finding a forever home. One of our biggest expenses is training for adoptable horses. IHR spends approximately $500 to $1,000 per month per horse on training.
Once they are ready, IHR adopts out healthy and rehabilitated horses into suitable, approved homes. Potential adopters are required to fill our our adoption form and pay a small adoption fee. Horses adopted from IHR may not be re-homed, re-sold, or bred. Adoptions are intended to be for the life of the horse. Their well-being is our #1 priority.
IHR is the only 501(c)(3) organization in our area dedicated exclusively to our equine friends. IHR continually receives solicitations for rescue throughout the state of Idaho. As a young nonprofit operating on a small budget, we are extremely proud of the services we have been able to provide. As our organization grows, so will our positive impact. IHR is seeking donations so that we may continue to give these rescued horses the necessary training and quality of care they need so that they may find their lifelong homes.
OUR GOALS
IHR is funded entirely by individual donations, private and corporate trusts, and charitable foundations. Without these contributions, our mission cannot continue. Donating just $10 would provide a horse with de-wormer treatment. Donating $25 would provide the horses an entire bag of Equine Senior (and we go through A LOT of Equine Senior!) Every donation makes a critical difference for these horses, no matter how big or how small. Even simply sharing our story helps in a big way by spreading the word of our mission.
