Why Give?

The Gap Year Association (GYA) was founded with a simple vision: to make at least a semester of quality gap year time accessible to every high school graduate. In the process, a community was formed: a robust network of educators, students, gap-year programs, consultants, and post-secondary institutions all committed to advancing the gap year movement and elevating experiential learning opportunities that enrich students' lives.

Over the past decade, the organization has served to improve students' access to quality gap year programming; to research trends and outcomes in the gap year field; to centralize professional development resources for members; and to objectively accredit programs and consultants working in gap year education. Your donation in support of GYA's 10th anniversary will help to further build upon these achievements by: 

  • Offering the gap year option to more students, especially those currently under-represented in the gap year community.
  • Promoting scholarships and financial aid options for gap year students.
  • Maintaining and updating the robust GYA accreditation standards and review process that drives best practices in the field.
  • Providing ongoing, and evolving, professional development as the stakeholders in the movement grow and expand.

Having navigated a global pandemic, shifting economies, and ever-changing societal expectations around education and professional advancement in a changing world, GYA's mission is now more important than ever.
