Anabel's is an independent, student-founded, student-run grocery store at Cornell. We address food insecurity by providing fresh, nutritious, local food to students with limited food budgets. Anabel's is the only venue on Cornell's campus that accepts SNAP EBT.
Although our store is small, our product mix reflects diverse cultural cuisines and our prices on basics like fresh produce, grains, legumes, nuts, and spices are equal to Aldi's. In a recent customer survey, 71% of respondents said that shopping at Anabel’s allows them to eat in a way that reflects diverse cultures, 88% said that Anabel’s helps them save money on groceries, and 91% said that Anabel’s makes it possible for them to eat in a way that supports their health.
The joy in our store is palpable! At check-out, we often hear shoppers exclaim that they can't believe how much they bought with so little. As a group of friends leave, we hear them chatting happily about what they are going to make for dinner. Due to soaring food prices, demand since last year has increased by 50%. Many of our customers come weekly and over 50% cook 5-7 times a week.
"I'm a first-gen, low-income, student and live off-campus without a car, so it is extremely difficult for me to meet my nutritional needs within my budget. Anabel's has been transformative, allowing me to eat a healthy diet, so I can focus on academics and my other goals on campus."
At the heart of Anabel’s Grocery is our belief that food is a universal language that brings people together and that dignified access to nutritious food is a human right.
Please join us to ensure Anabel's stays strong. Donations to our subsidize fund make it possible for us to keep prices low so all students can eat well.
Thank you!
