The mission of FIRST® is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders and innovators, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.
Over 15,000 students in Georgia participate on a FIRST Robotics teams. Many of these students come from under-represented, rural and urban areas of our state where, without FIRST, there would be little to no access to computer programming, engineering design, technical outreach, etc. FIRST fills that void by offering four programs:
that inspires youth to be creative, collaborative, confident, all while competing like crazy with a robot of their design. This program is as real world as it gets - too little time, too little resources and too little money; yet, a finished product must be created. FIRST participants are the future of our technical workforce in Georgia.
