COTS FOR TOTS
Since we are a small not for profit we have a very limited budget and have been using the same metal cots in our camp much beyond their natural expiration date. Since a restful nights sleep is such a necessity after such a full day of activity we are doing our best to make this a more comfortable experience for our campers.
As in many things that require doing here at Braeside, we called upon our local community to assist and like always they have come through. Our local HONOR EG not for profit agency has offered to use local residents to get much needed training in the process of building all new bunk beds for our campers.
We are hopeful that with these new bunks we can change out the many mattresses and pillows that have also over extended their stay here at camp for a total new sleeping experience for all.
About Braeside Camp
Braeside Camp offers a summer experience for boys and girls from Orange County, ages 6 to 12. There are four 2-week residential programs offered as well as a day camp program, depending on your desired enrollment. Braeside‘s unique sliding scale allows for any child to attend camp despite their economic situation. Our primary mission is to ensure a traditional camping experience for those kids who could not otherwise afford it.
The camp has been open and operating since 1899 and continues to offer an authentic sleep away camp experience to the children of Orange County. Braeside is located over 17 acres of scenic land in the greater Middletown, NY area. Camp facilities include sleeping units, which house over 80 campers, a large dining hall and recreation building, arts and crafts areas, a large in ground pool, basketball courts, playgrounds, campsites and wooded hiking trails along a scenic freshwater stream.
During the course of the sessions campers are taught important life skills such as appreciating the value of diversity among people, working cooperatively with others as well as respect for each other and the environment.
Seeing the need to add a repertoire of skills to our local children moving from Kindergarten into the first grade, Braeside began offering a Kinder Camp experience. Children in need are recruited from all over Orange County and are able to come and enjoy all of the social emotional and educational experiences of a summer camp along with learning activities built into their exciting days.Braeside supports many great employment and training opportunities to local youth but also partners with the summer youth employment agency by supervising and giving job opportunities to many local youth who meet a similar income criteria that our campers do.
