Camp Ramapo

Dear friends and supporters,

Ramapo for Children, founded in 1922, was built on the simple but powerful philosophy that all children seek the same things: to learn, to feel valued and to experience success. Through our programs, we work to create educational environments that support and nurture children and young adults with social, emotional and learning differences, and align their behaviors with their aspirations.

Camp Ramapo, our facility in Rhinebeck, New York, is beloved by campers, counselors, staff assistants and families across the country, as well as local residents who recognize the positive impact our camp has on children within the community. Our residential summer camp program serves just under 500 children each year, who range from 5 to 18 years of age, and the mid-Hudson Valley area comprises the second-largest source of our participants. The percentage of campers from the mid-Hudson Valley area who are in need of scholarship support to attend camp is notably higher than other geographical areas we serve. In a given year, more than 80% of families from the area qualify for scholarship support, and Ramapo provides more than $170,000 to these local families in the form of reduced fees.

In addition to summer camp, our Rhinebeck facility acts as the site for Ramapo Retreats, which offers regional schools customized outdoor adventures that promote team-building, tolerance and effective communication. It’s also the home of our Staff Assistant Experience, a year-round transition-to-independence program that helps young adults prepare for college and employment by teaching vocational, communication and life skills.
