Build NYC's solidarity economy!

A fundraising campaign for Cooperative Economics Alliance of NYC

With key political races primed to reshape New York, 2021 is the year to rebound from COVID-19 through going all in on the fight for a cooperative city.

After this past year of pandemic and protest, the moment to transform our economy is now. For decades, thousands of New Yorkers - primarily low-income women of color and immigrant women - have organized cooperatives and employed solidarity economics to survive and thrive. This grassroots fundraising campaign will ensure that the Cooperative Economics Alliance of NYC (CEANYC) can flourish and continue resourcing this movement in our city.

CEANYC is owned and managed by its 120+ members, including: worker co-ops, food co-ops, community development credit unions, mutual housing, low-income housing co-ops, community land trusts, community gardens, community supported agriculture (CSAs), and individual New Yorkers. We know that from Tokyo to Porto Alegre to Montreal, wherever cooperatives have thrived, they have worked together across sectors to form solidarity economy eco-systems. That is why CEANYC formed as the sole grassroots cross-sectoral network focused on building a solidarity economy movement in New York City.  Our mission is to connect, support, and promote our Solidarity Economy: the people, enterprises and organizations, and movements that are grounded in values of democracy, cooperation, mutualism, ecological sustainability, and justice.

CEANYC supports these community controlled institutions through:

  • LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
  • PEER-LED TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE AND CAPACITY BUILDING
  • RESEARCH + MAPPING
  • NETWORK BUILDING

One current program priority is CEANYC’s role catalyzing Leadership Councils that foster political leadership in each sector of the solidarity economy. These Leadership Councils will enable each sector to shape demands and campaigns based on their needs and share their ideas for cross-sectoral collaboration at network-wide convenings.

With key political races primed to reshape our city, 2021 is the year to rebound from the devastation of COVID-19 and go all in on a fight for a cooperative city.
