Global Roots Play School, a program of Ithaca Welcomes Refugees, is reopening this fall for the first time in over two years! The COVID-19 pandemic had forced Global Roots to close its doors in March 2020, and due to the unique needs of our student population, the school has had a delayed reopening.
Global Roots is a diverse, play-based, child-paced program prioritizing families taking English as a Second Language classes, although the school is open to all children ages 18 months to five years. Global Roots is a specialized childcare program; since many students are refugees or at the very least have moved from one country to another, teachers practice trauma-informed care and come up with creative ways to communicate in the absence of shared language.
