Dear Friend,
As we step into our 17th year, the team at Lucky Orphans Horse Rescue (LOHR) is filled with immense gratitude and a renewed passion for our mission of providing hope, healing, and community through equine-assisted programming. Thanks to your unwavering support, LOHR has been able to transform lives—both equine and human—and with your help, we aim to sustain and expand these efforts in 2025.
Our mission, “People Helping Horses Heal People,” is the cornerstone of everything we do. It embodies our dual commitment to the lifelong well-being of rescued horses and the healing, growth, and resilience of individuals in our community. As a sanctuary, LOHR is dedicated to offering a safe haven for 50 rescued horses while fostering profound connections that nurture emotional and mental health. At the heart of our work are the diverse programs we offer, each tailored to meet the unique needs of the community. These initiatives not only enrich the lives of participants but also create a sense of purpose and engagement for our horses. From equine-assisted therapy for veterans and first responders to youth development programs that foster leadership and life skills, LOHR serves as a sanctuary of solace, transformation, and empowerment. Current Programs Offered by LOHR:
- Youth Development: Leadership and life skills for school-aged children.
- Equine-Assisted Development & Psychotherapy: Supporting veterans, first responders, at-risk youth, probation programs, and families in crisis.
- Equine-Experiential Education
- Humane Education
- Volunteer Opportunities: For ages 5 to 100, ranging from property management, barn care, and gardening to social media, office support, and fundraising.
Each program is an essential piece of our sanctuary's sustainability, fostering long-term relationships between humans and horses while providing the enrichment and care our animals need. The transformative power of equine-assisted therapy continues to demonstrate how vital these programs are—not just for the individuals who participate but also for the rescued horses who find purpose and healing through their interactions. As a non-profit organization, LOHR relies on donations, events, grants, and sponsorships to sustain the care of our 48 horses and provide these impactful programs to the community. With your continued support, we can ensure that our sanctuary thrives in the years to come, serving as a beacon of hope and healing for all who seek it. Your generosity makes everything we do possible. Together, we can continue to build on our mission and make a lasting difference in the lives of those who need it most.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Deanna Mancuso
